Is It Rude? is an English language and tone reference guide that helps English learners, travelers, and the language-curious understand what words really mean — beyond the dictionary definition.

What We Do

For every word, we answer five core questions:

We also provide regional comparisons (US, UK, Australia) because the same word can feel completely different depending on which country you're in.

Why This Exists

English textbooks won't tell you how mild "bloody" sounds to Americans, or that "cunt" can be a compliment between Australian friends. These nuances need explaining — that's why we're here.
